I had special guests on board the Happy Day Today for a deep sea fishing charter out of Fort Lauderdale FL Ė Paula DaSilva, finalist on the Fox TVís Hellís Kitchen and Executive Chef of the world renown Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel Restaurant, 1500į, http://www.1500degreesmiami.com/ along with Sous Chef Tony Velazquez and Adrienne Grenier and friends.

It was another typical beautiful day here in Fort Lauderdale FL, temperature in the low 80ís, sunny, winds out of the southeast 7- 9 mph. Our main objective was to catch eating fish, specifically Mahi Mahiís and Whaoo.

After leaving the dock at Bahia Mar, within 15 minutes we had lines were in the water. The reef starts and the drop off starts from 80í to 120 ft. Using a couple Bonito strip baits on the down rigger and five naked Ballyhoos on the surface. Our first fish was a King fish in the 8 lb class that was caught on the strip bait. From there another King fish was added to our fish box. I could see birds were working the area east of Fort Lauderdaleís drop off, so I headed towards that spot. Diving birds are great indicators of bait and predatory fish. Once we got to the area, the first fish we caught was a Mahi Mahi on the surface bait, weighing in at 9 lbs. We kept picking away at more Mahi Mahiís as we worked the area, which sat over one of 34 artificial wrecks that sits off of Fort Lauderdale FL in 280 ft. of water. The whole group took turns bringing in the Mahi Mahiís and enjoying their refreshing rum fruit drinks. With 10 Mahi Mahiís and two King Fish in the fish box, we went in search of the Wahoo, but there were none to be found that day. The next day, which you will see in our next report, we caught a good size Wahoo.

We headed back to Fort Lauderdale FL after another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing charter with the Topshotfishing Team and Captain Zsak - 954-439-8106 Ė www.topshotfishing.com

Sounds like a great trip, Mahi are great eating. Great job, have my first charters of the year (I'm a deckhand on the Sure Thing our of Destin) this sat-12 hour jack-fishing trip. And Wed I'm helping out an old captain of mine on some inshore trips. I really need to get down your way for some fishing in the near-future.
