Lowrance Pro Angler John Cox Wins FLW Event at Lake Sam Rayburn
Lowrance®, a world-leader in fishing electronics since 1957, dominated the Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) event on Lake Sam Rayburn in Brookeland, Texas, January 23-26. Lowrance Pros took nine of the top 10 spots, led by John Cox, who claimed the tournament title with a total weight of 65-pounds, 15-ounces. Cox led the event wire-to-wire, having the highest weight on all four days of the competition. Of 154 boats in the field, 106 were running Lowrance electronics.
In this event, the full field of 154 pro anglers competed in the two-day opening round Thursday and Friday. The top 30 pros, based on their two-day accumulated weight, advanced to fish on Saturday. Only the top 10 pros continued competing on Sunday, with the winner being determined by the heaviest accumulated weight from the four days of competition.
Cox capped the tournament with a 12-pound, 9-ounce haul on the final day to earn his fifth career FLW pro-level victory. Each of those five victories have come from a different fishery and a different state.
The Debary, Florida native began his FLW career in 2004 as a co-angler. Since then he has five FLW career victories and two runner-up finishes in the FLW Angler of the Year race. In 2016, Cox made history as the first pro angler to bring home the FLW Forrest Wood Cup in an aluminum boat.
