Retiring soon and thinking about moving. What I want to do is bass fish and hit the Keys for some saltwater fishing and camping. Mix in some scuba diving and it will be perfect. I’m looking at Cape Coral, Kissimmee, and maybe a suburb west of Miami.

Any thoughts on those areas or alternatives?

I’d really like to be west of Miami proper, but not sure what crime situation is like.

Well, if I had no limitations, like money, I’d live on Fisher Island. But yeah, that ain’t gonna happen.

I also liked Tampa-St. Pete but traffic was horrendous in 85, can’t imagine what it is like now. Thoughts?

I also like the Florida Panhandle, Panama City Beach especially. But it’s a long drive to good bass fishing and the Florida Keys. Thoughts?

I was in Perry Florida once. Scared the [censored] out of me, those people were inbred or something funky.

The whole Pam Beach to Miami corridor is too crowded and expensive. But I would consider living on the west edge of Miami, but I don’t know anything about whether is is affordable or safe. I doubt it is either.

On the other hand, I would consider compromising some of my “must haves” and move to the Bahamas. Anybody live there?

Hey, where are all the orange orchards in Florida? I’ve always heard about them, but have no idea where they are.

Was looking at a map and the area around Arcadia looks a lot like south Texas, flat, live oaks, pretty to my eyes. Reminds me of home. Too bad the town looks old, poor, and run down. I’m sure the folks there are good people. Does not look nice though.

I wonder how many of you know what a map is? Or even know how to read and write? Same as the Georgia folks.

Anyway, Maybe people in Florida are too busy being outside and don’t have access to the interwebs? Nah. Heck, even the poorest people down here have multiple phones and unlimited data plans.

I even saw that in the poorest, dirtiest, most disgusting places in Africa. No matter how poor they were, people always had the latest iPhone or android device and unlimited data plans.

I’m not judging. I’m just an observer in this world.

Anyway, back to Florida. What is Clewiston like? Besides the Martin family, is there anyone else there? Is this a big tourist area or locals only? What about retirement? Do many people retire there?

Lots of mobile homes in Clewiston. Wonder if Roland lives in a double wide?

Well, there’s a Walmart, so it can’t be that bad. And a Ace Hardware store. Ah yeah, Popeyes on Main Street. Add Clewiston to the Must Visit list.

Leaving Clewiston, let’s explore Goodland a little. There’s not much to explore here.

Let’s see, there are nice houses (new builds) interspersed with old dumpy houses that have tires, abandoned cars or golf carts, generally trashy yard. Nice…

But overall, looks like a nice place, on the rise, but real estate must be outrageous here. Has to be…

Actually, I like Goodland. Looks like it would be great kayak fishing in the area.

I bet it would be difficult to get to know the locals. I bet they would be suspicious of folks like me moving in and buying real estate at inflated prices. Causing their real estate property valuations and tax rates to increase.

Everglades City…talk about isolated. But I like it. Just so far away from everything. Maybe that’s what might make it nice.
