What soft plastics do you use?
It varies big time from lake to lake here.

Speed craw hands down. If the fish wont hit a speed craw then something is wrong with the genetics in the lake.

Try them on the back of a jig Bassman2, they will hold the jig up and give it great action.

OK, I know Lake Fork Tackle is a sponsor of mine, but I use two trailer when fishing a jig.
If your in open water around rocks/Sandy or clay banks/ I use a E2 Needle Worm, it stand the jig up and gives it a fin look.
If you are in heavy cover I use a LFT Hyper Worm/LFT Hyper Freak/LFT Hyper Baby Freak. They have a big paddle tail that attracts bass in heavy tight cover.

Usually it's a red shad Culprit worm. I also like Gulp Turtle Back 7 inch worms in Junebug. That's if I can keep the bluegils and catfish off of them. Peg both with 1/16 weight 15lb Big Game and if I'm not kicking mud with the trolling motor I'm too deep. Unfortunately I'm still stuck in KY and am looking forward to being snowbird resident in central FL. HELLO Harris Chain!!!!

The equipment(rod#1,then reel) is as important if not more in the correct set-up than line or hook..
I use a Shimano core reel, on a G*Loomis DSR820 or 822 (822=Deep water) 8/30 Stren super braid(it's round and stays green for ever) with 16 foot of InvisX flow-carb for a leader paired with a 1/0 Gammy straight shank worm hook and a Mojo cylinder weight about two foot down.. The amount of weight will vary with depth and cover, of course the lighter weight will getcha bit more, no doubt about that.

Zoom trick worms. No question. Color and style vary by lake and conditions, but nothing beats the subtle wiggle of a trick work in my book.

I recently found me a new goto bait! I got some mexican rattler's from elgrandelures. These things are like a beefed up trick worms. I fished it on Lake Rousseau couple week's ago and wore them out. 22lbs with 5 fish. One was on a rat-l-trap though. I like to use them C-rigged and around brush piles...
