Fishing Report and forecast for the Tampa Bay and Saint Petersburg Area
2-17-09

Water temperatures in the Little Manatee River and Tampa Bay are now in the mid to upper 60’s but the bite has been very slow.

We fished on Friday Saturday and Sunday and by far the best bite was in Cockroach Bay where we caught our limit of Trout on Friday. Saturday and Sunday left a lot to be desired. All three of the days we fished Out of Pirates Pointe Resort on the shores of the Little Manatee River ( www.piratespointeresort.com ) first looking for Snook in the Little Manatee River outward to the mouth of Tampa Bay The shook bite is and has been slow in the Little Manatee River for the last four weeks and no change this week. The water temperature is in the mid 60’s I would have thought the snook bite would have been much better.
Even the Sheephead bite slowed this week and for the life of me I don’t know why.
The trout bite was Okay on Friday but by Saturday they too disappeared.

We will be out this week working it hard and I’ll let everyone know how we do next week.

There is no white bait on the flats of Tampa Bay at this time. Water tempters will have to rise quite a bit. Bait will show up in a few months on the flats. Right now you will have to look deep for the white bait. Shrimp is an excellent choice this time of year.

Be safe out there.
