Fishing Report and forecast for the Tampa Bay and Saint Petersburg Area
3-02-09

The bite in the Little Manatee River picked up this week but it is still on the slow side. We fished this past Thursday catching Snook to 24 inches, 1 Redfish and several Jacks and lady fish. I do have to say we lost two big snook to the dock monsters. My trip on Friday produced similar results minus the lady fish. The snook bite did seem to be a little better with the snook being a little more active

Capt Paul Van Eepoel of Ruskin fished the Little Manatee River area on Saturday and reported catching up to 17 snook and 1 big redfish. He two lost a big snook but this time it was in the mangroves.

From all indication it looked like the snook bite was about to explode when guess what. Another dang cold front.

Tempertures are going to drop to the upper 30s on Monday night and stay cold through Wednesday morning. Looks like the bite is off until at least Wednesday afternoon but more likely Thursday. After that it looks good for at least a warm spell that will last more that two days. (Keep your fingers crossed)

There is no white bait on the flats of Tampa Bay at this time. Water tempters will have to rise a bit more. Maybe by the last week of March we will here about some bait moving onto the flats. Right now you will have to look deep for the white bait. Shrimp is an excellent choice this time of year.

Be safe out there.
