Hey there,
New member. Lifetime SF fisherman, mostly saltwater. Moved to Miramar recently and have been fishing a freshwater lake by my community. I've been catching large mouth bass mostly (14" largest), but just caught a new species today that I've identified as a Mayan Cichlid. I photographed it with against my rod and measured later and estimate it at about 11".
From what I can tell, the record size for this species is just over 11":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cichlasoma_urophthalmus"The Mayan cichlid reaches a maximum standard length of 280 mm (Conkel 1997)." (that's just over 11")
I'm having trouble posting my photo, because this site will only take links, not picture files...
If anyone knows of Mayan Cichlids being larger than this, please email me at
isaac954@gmail.com and I'll email my pics of this fish.
Thanks!
