Hey everyone, I'm just being curious and wondering what brand of reels yall use the most. I'm a Shimano purist and want to lay my grounds early . Thanks, Mike.

Well Hello,
I am a Shimano Fan as well, I use the stradics, I wish they would bring out a model larger than the 2500 but smaller than the 4000 in the Mag. I won't spend the money for the Sustain's and Stella's, just do not think they are worth the money or gain that much performace to justify the cost in my world.
I am an old school Penn user as well, the Older metal body SS's and the Geenies too. It's what I grew up with, Dad was a die hard fan and I always got them for birthdays and such. I have a collection for sure. I do not like the newer stuff, but heard they were just bought again so who knows whats in store for them now.

Hey James.
You may want to take a look at the Shimano Twinpoer 3000 on eBay. It's a great reel, especially for the price. Way better than the Sustain, yet the same prce.

For casting reels I use Garcia REVO STX's. I will also use a Shimano TE200GT Calcutta once in a while. I use the Diawa Pixy and Fuego for fresh water. I use Diawa 2500R & 1500 Certates for spinning and I also have a Shimano Stella 2500FB and Sustain 1000 that I use for flats fishing. I have a Certate 3500HD on it's way that will be used for tarpon. Part of the joy of hunting and fishing is the equipment one uses. I like using and maintaining these reels.

i fish with a 7' medium action Calico Jack Hurricane with a Diawa 2500 for inshore and a 7' medium heavy Calico Jack Hurricane with a Shimano Sahara 4000 for the inlet and some offshore.
Get that fish to the boat, this aint a fishing show!

I use a 7' medium action Calico Jack Hurricane as well with a 2500 or 4000 shimano stradic depending on what Im goin for. I also have a 6' MH Ugly Stick that I usually save for offshore or jewfish at the Inlet. I also have 6' Fiberglass polespear for reef dives.
just know that the fish I have on is really really fat.

Im a walleye musky bass guy/ northerner in central ohio Sort of a mixture the walleye and bass get my spinnning outfits shimano stradic and symentry the musky get my abu garcias C3 and C4 6500 series The C4 is sweet. This question may need to go to a different thread but for my first post here im adding it. The salt water down there if i get the chance to fish it unfortunately not this yr but next should i invest in a saltwater rig or use one of the abu garcias? I would of attatched some pics but havent gotten that far yet in this forum http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=22044&ppuser=2801 hope it worked

I use the Shimano Stradic FI and the Stradic MgFB. I've never used a better reel than either of those two. I have a friend that has made me several rods and those are what my reels are on.

ABU GARCIAS ARE [censored]!!!!! All the gears and parts are flimsy sheet metal and plastic. I repair reels, and work for West Marine, and all i use is Penn, Quantum, Orvis, and Shimano, and i fish for EVERYTHING from Tuna to rainbow trout. SHIMANO SALTWATER BAIT CASTERS SUCK AT CASTING!!!!! For rods i like Falcon, St. Croix, and Lamiglas.

Ugly Stick rods are too sensitive at the tip in comparison to the rest of the rod, and for that price you can get a light action Falcon that will be some much more sensitive, with a lot more backbone. i have a 7'6 Falcon Coastal Light Gulf Caster and its the best rod i have ever used for Specs, Reds, Flounder, Spanish, and Stripers

Mike, I am new to this forum and find your comments interesting. I am pretty much new at fishing and live in Northern NJ so I do not get to the saltwater often. I enjoy fishing very much though and would like to do more of it in the future. The equipment I currently own is as follows. 1.Diawa 11 ft offshore casting rod with a Shimano Spheros 8000FA 2.Lamaglas rod for fluke, striper, etc, with a Quantum Boca BSP40PTS spinning reel. I love this combo! 3.For trout and lake bass, I have an old Abu Garcia 6 ft and the Abu Garcia spinning reel combo.I bought this pole when my son was 12 yrs. old, he is now 30. 4.Diawa Ugly Stick with a Quantum CLW 30 casting reel. I have not yet used this combo. I will have to get on a deep sea party to use this one I would imagine. I read where you said you did not like the Ugly Stick. What do you recommend in its place? Also you said you DID NOT LIKE the Shumano casting reel. To tell you the truth, I replaced the one I had on my Lamiglas rod with the one I mentioned above. I would love to get to Florida and fish the intercoastal and I would love to have a nice center console 19-21 ft fiberglass boat also. I may have to move to a warmer climate so I can do this fishing I would really like to do. Well, I enjoyed your comments and lool forward to reading more of them. Happy fishing! Ken S.

Please dont tell me you put power pro on all your reels becasue i have spent alot of time in Seaside and Island Beach State Park and thats how yall do it up there.

Mike, Thank you for replying to my message to you. To answer your question, no I do not put Power Pro on my reels. I use Trilene Mono at present, (different weights for different fishing), like I am telling you something you do not know!! Like I told you, I am new to this sport so I rely on the advice from the sporting good store I buy from. the name of it is Ramsey Outdoor Store in Ramsey and Paramus, NJ. We also have 2 other great stores with websites up here. They are Gander Mountain and Cabelos. They are amazing stores with many different brands of products and Equipment. Like I told you in my last message to you, I prefer the spinning reel to the casting reel. I am much more comfortable with the spinning reel, maybe because I have not used a casting reel in the past. I seem to have real problem casting it without getting backlash!! What a mess. Do you have any suggestions regarding my Shimano Corvalus CVL 401? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Penn is always a good bet as far as reels go......I am also very partial to my new okuma spinning reel that I have recently purchased. Mounted on an ugly stick..but as far as trolling reels and offshore set up Penn is the best
