    Fished barefoot beach Friday night 8/12 and sun morning 8/14 haven't had any action except for a small bonnet shark. I'm using 30lb braid with a 6oz pyramid weight with about 3 1/2 feet of 60lb test mono leader with a size 3/0 circle hook using small bait fish caught with my cast net. some times i would reel in with no bait don't know if it just got of or not any tips am i doing anything wrong. going out again tomorrow 8/15 I am new to surf fishing and trying to figure it out any help would be apreciated

    I know it's late, but 6 oz is a pretty heavy weight. Was the surf that bad that you needed such a heavy weight? Granted, I'm not a hardcore surf fisherman by any means, but I love to do it. I always try and get away with as little weight as possible. It sounds like you are gearing up for big fish, but using little fish sized bait IMO.

    I just got back from Sieata Key and had just about as much fun with a 7 foot MH bass rod and reel spooled with 30lb braid as I did with my big rods after bigger sharks. There was almost 0 wave action, and I used 3 B size pinch on weights, a 1/0 circle hook and a piece of squid on a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. I caugth whiting, catfish and bonnet heads on it, and had a blast.

    Next time, you might head to a few local tackle shops and tell them what you are doing and see what they suggest. I did that in Siesta and it helped a TON.
