Late november a friend of mine from Chicago and I will be taking a camping trip to one of these locations. I am starting to lean more toward Long Key, but that is neither here nor there. I guess I have 2 questions really:

    1. Having recently picked up surf fishing, the only equipment I have is surf related. Being that it is all I have and I don't have deep pockets, is it possible to use this stuff in the keys without too many problems?

    2. Fishing from the shore or wading out, what are the odds of actually catching something edible from the water that I can throw on the grill at the end of the day? Or am I just going to be SOL without a boat at either park?

Mind you, I won't have a boat, nor will I be renting one because of my tight budget. Also I have zero experience with the Keys and all the info I find online really doesn't tell me anything but normal tourist info. I found this sight while trying to find fishing information. smile

I would pick Bahia Honda. We have spent a lot of time there and it's my favorite beach in the keys. Fishing from the shore is also good around the bridge on the southwest end.

Camping facilities are nice and they have kayaks you can rent.

Thanks for the insight J.P., making reservations for Bahia Honda seems to be my only challenge at the moment. Finding one of the Sandspur tent sites at the beachline is quite a chore. Nothing ever seems to come available. Any experience with Long Key?

We have explored almost every square inch of the Keys from Largo to Key West, but I never spent time on Long Key. After looking over a few web sites, I'll definitely be checking it out next trip.
