Twas the night before fishin', when all through the fog
Not a creature was stirring, not even a frog.
The poles were stored in the boat with care,
In hopes that morning light soon would be there.

Nana in her kerchief, and a blanket on my lap,
We had just settled down for our final nightcap.
When out on the lake there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

The fish were surfacing, chasing shad with a passion,
So we practiced our casting in a now hurried fashion.
And now on to bed for some rest before departing,
On our trip to catch some, then eat, then... well you know!

Now family! Now friends! Now all we hold dear!
This wish is for you, so be of good cheer,
As tomorrow we head out at the first sign of light,
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!
