Sandbar safety,Stay safe out there this 4th of July Holiday.

A friend of mine went under water for half a block when the edge of a sand bar unexpectedly broke off under his weight. It threw him into current and he was lucky to touch bottom so he knew which way was up. He thought he was done for.

That's good advice. I never knew they could collapse.

I don't have to judge people, I just watch and learn.

You are welcome. I've gotten a number of horror stories about sandbars since I posted this. One guy and his wife were on a big sandbar on the Mississippi River and an area opened up between them and shore. Then closed up as fast as it opened. Gulp!

Your welcome agc 4life, I can remember playing on them as a kid going around pushing the edge off with my foot. Not knowing how deep it might be. Someone was watching over me for sure.

This happens on the Mississippi River eveytime it gets real low. They never find the people it swallows.

Kind of like the sink holes in Florida. No way to get at them.
