I am a retired pro fisherman and have been guiding private lakes in Texas.
My wife and I are going to relocate to the Destin area. I want to know if there are private lakes in the area. All help appreciated

there are private lakes all over this damn state. Part of the problem with bass fishing here. Everything is private and deed restricted so you have to fish the crowded public lakes.

Destin is more saltwater fishing oriented. No worries though, in summer we refer to the Gulf as the 'lake' because it is just as calm as any freshwater lake. There are some private ponds in the area, and a few public lakes/ponds mostly on the reservation. About an hours ride away are two largish lakes- Hurricane and Bear lakes, both of which have decent fishing. And we have several rivers in the area that are open to fishing.

Freshwater fishing will likely carry over well to inshore bayou or bay fishing for redfish and trout, and you will also catch flounder and black drum on occasion with artificials. A bass boat or jonboat is adequate for fishing in the bay, sound or bayous. Hope this helps
