As the cold weather makes a bit of a retreat fishing on the Southshore of Tampa Bay picks up speed.
The first part of the week started off with a bang. My tip on Monday produced several snook, our limit of trout and three flounder. The snook ranged from 18 inches to a whopping 30 inch. The trout went between 14 and 19 inches but we did catch 8 in the slot the flounder were small but nice to see 3 in a day. We actually caught 2 slot size snook the second was 29 inches. What made this nice this was the gentleman’s first ever snook.
Tuesday’s trip starts out of downtown and I again headed to the Southshore area. It is a bit of a run for a four hour trip but we made it. The run paid off with a 28 inch snook to top out our list.
Wednesday’s trip starts off out of the St. Pete area and we fished the Fort Desoto area. The trip produced Trout, flounder, Mangrove Snapper, Blue Fish and lady fish. All in all it was a good trip but no big fish to brag about.
With the water temperature beginning to climb out of the lower 60’s It’s but a short time before we will see the spring Snook bite providing we don’t get another cold snap.
There is no white bait on the flats with most of the bait holding deep around the Skyway.
Catch em up.
